V2 is one of the earliest video-conferencing software vendors which are GIPS compliant, a world leading voice communication solution and standard that brings users best voice communication experiences and a perfect voice quality that is better than telephone. The solution also features, among others, AEC (acoustic echo cancellation), AGC (automatic gain control), and NR (noise reduction) designed for conferencing applications.

Featuring MPEG4 and H264 video compression algorithms, V2 Conference has an excellent bandwidth adaptability and video compression rate, hence, with its patented code stream control and bandwidth adaptability mechanisms, ensuring ideal visual effects even with a poor networking condition. System Architecture

The V2Conference system architecture is based on the client-server model; essentially, a V2Conference server provides the meeting gathering point for various desktop clients. The entire system is PC based using a Windows™ operating system environment and supports various network environments; from Internet to Intranet, dial-up to broadband and firewalled or not.

The architecture provides many advantages, such as the ability to smooth or groom traffic from clients with differing access speeds and provide centralized management, control and security. See Figure 3: V2Conference System Architecture for a pictorial system view.

Technology Patents

In creating the V2 core multimedia communications technology, the V2 research and development team concentrated on the key customer decision-making factor for such systems; Quality of Experience (QoE). In attempting to provide the utmost in QoE, the single largest implementation factor would be ensuring that voice and video are transferred as near to real-time as possible; achieved through network Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms. Unfortunately, the majority of data networks have not been provisioned with real-time data transfer in mind, and hence, lack inherent QoS, resulting in network transfer of voice and video being unreliable, inconsistent and severely impacting a customer’s QoE

The four primary components within QoS are:


Network throughput – measured in kilo or mega bytes per second.

End to End Delay

The average time for a packet to traverse the network; the lower the delay, the better the quality. If the end to end delay is greater than 150-200 milliseconds, then there is a noticeable degradation.


Defined as the variation in end to end delay. The larger the jitter value, the higher chance of packets arriving out of sequence resulting in ‘jerky’ video and audio ‘popping’. Ideally, jitter values should not be more than 20 to 50 milliseconds.

Packet Loss

Is the percentage of packets that were discarded somewhere within the network, therefore failing to reach their destination. A packet loss greater than 1% can cause a noticeable degradation in quality.

There are three QoS enabler which ensure that the above elements are kept at appropriate values, namely:

Network Provisioning

Directly related with bandwidth, is the amount of capacity provisioned by network operators.


A network is comprised of many network devices such as routers and switches. Within each of these network devices are memory buffers used to store and forward packets. In heavily trafficked networks, these buffers can be overrun or very long resulting in packet loss and delay.


This refers to schemes provided by network equipment vendors which can differentiate and give priority to ‘tagged’ network traffic.

Bit Rate Control Mechanism in Video Compression (Issued)

Bit rate of compressed video varies all the time. In the scenario of a video conference, however, bandwidth is often fixed. Thus a mechanism to control the bit rate of compressed video is needed in order for the video data be transferred thru the fixed bandwidth smoothly.

Forward Error Control Mechanism in Multimedia Real-time Communication in Internet (Issued)

The quality of audio and video depends very much on the packet loss rate when transmitted over public Internet. This patented technology, delivers superior audio quality even when network congestion is encountered.
